Dear Comrades, Friends and Colleagues in Youth Development

African youths are not problematic. They are resilient, resolved and resourceful. I thank YOU for the endorsements – #Ceesay4PYU. The solidarity – from all corners of Africa and Diaspora, is overwhelming and greatly appreciated. Investing in “African Youths” is like opening a “SAVINGS ACCOUNT” – with unlimited interests. National governments should understand the dynamics and positive ripple-effects of innovative investments in youth development.

I intend to take this advocacy to the African Heads of State and Governments; the United Nations System and International Development Partners; when elected as the 5th President of the Pan-African Youth Union (PYU) – umbrella body of the all national youths councils, youth organizations and movements in Africa. PYU has the POTENTIALS to concretely address the development challenges of African Youths and serve as a ray of hope. Unfortunately; this has not happened due to lack of vision in championing the implementation of the African Youth Charter by the African Union member states.

The critical and creative capacity and capability needed to deliver for African youths is missing. Several other challenges could be attributed to this frustrating situation. I prefer to focus on the solutions and i think LEADERSHIP is one huge step in our attempt to deliver for the African youths. I strongly believe, i have the VISION and ready to embark on this MISSION with you all; to SERVE the best interests of African youth. Most importantly; provide the required proactive and effective leadership needed to unleash the potentials and talents of African youth. I will work with the PYU Executive Committee and Bureau, African Union Commission, National Governments and their respective National Youth Councils and development partners working in Africa; to accelerate the implementation of the African Youth Charter and several youth policies and programmes developed at the African Union level. The African Union Agenda 2063 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals will serve as benchmarks for our work.

Am thanking the Ministry of Youth and Sports of The Republic of The Gambia, Gambia National Youth Council, National and Regional Youth Organizations and partners in youth development for the support, endorsement and encouragement on my candidacy for the Presidency of the Pan-African Youth Union (PYU). Above all, I thank my creator and maker for giving me the vision and determination to embark on this mission. I have served the African Youth in different capacities – in my activism and professional career for 12yrs.

Serving and Service to humanity is a passion and a mission that i enjoy doing. I reaffirm and recommit my service to youth development and empowerment in Africa and across the world.

Shalom!
